about

 Hello!
I am Nicole, my husband is David, and our daughter is Eleanor.  We currently live in sunny Santa Barbara, California.  He’s a native Californian, I’m a Midwest girl.  I’m the extremist, he’s the minimalist.  Together we love, the beach, sushi, and music.

I moved to Santa Barbara after I sold my clothing boutique, that I owned and operated for 12 years.  I met my husband in 2010, become best friends, fell in love, and we were married in 2011, in Santa Barbara.  We added to our family in 2014, with baby Eleanor.

We are glad you stopped by, and hope that you will enjoy little pieces of our life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How did you decide on the name goodnewssantabarbara?  My husband was the one who came up with it.  We had talked about starting a website dedicated only to Santa Barbara news, but ended up talking about everything.  We also like to post ramblings of our lives, so our out of town friends and family can stay connected.
How did you decide to blog?  I decided to blog after realizing I needed some sort of a creative outlet.  For years I had my boutique, which kept me very busy.  After selling it I pondered things to do and decided to start a blog about “whatever”.  I like that I have my own space to be creative (or not, depending on your liking), to fool around in.
Will you ever open another boutique?  Probably not.  I loved what I did for 12 years, but it takes a lot of effort and time to run a good business.  These days I’m married, and God-willing, will start a family soon.  I like my life just how it has been presented to me to this day, so I’m not objecting to it as of now.
Will you ever move back to Omaha, Nebraska?  Never say never.  Omaha is a wonderful city to raise a family, and of course my mom and dad are there, so that would be a huge reason to move back.
What kind of camera do you use?  I use a Canon T3i with the kit lens, and a 55-250mm lens.
I’m coming to Santa Barbara for the weekend, what should I do?  The list is endless.  For restaurant’s, we love, Ca Dario.  It’s Italian and we have never, and I mean never, had a bad meal there.  We also are big fans of the Santa Barbara Public Market, for some good eats.  The Presidio Chapel, is a historical landmark and one of Santa Barbara’s first establishments, also where we got married.  The Botanical gardens, is a beautiful place to check out.  Full of lovely flowers.  The Santa Barbara Mission, is a beautiful church to see, and across from the Mission is the rose garden.  Some good places to check out live music are; Santa Barbara Bowl, The Arlington Theater, and Soho.  Another really fun, hip area, that has many different restaurant’s and breweries is, The Funk Zone.  There are so many more things to do and see.  We are huge beach fans, so you always have that to do if you just want to relax.   The best time of year to visit Santa Barbara is September and October.
