LA for the day

la2 new

This past weekend we ventured down to Los Angeles for the day.  It was a last minute, lets jump in the car and go, type of thing.  Eleanor and I went with our good friend, while daddy worked.  There was an amazing event going on in Topanga Canyon, that I really wanted to go to, but, unfortunately we didn’t get to make it there. Although, we did make it to a few of my favorite places.  I’m such a creature of habit. I always go to my “favorites” when we go to LA.

We stopped at the general store, because need I say more. Then we made our way to lunch at the super healthy and yummy, Café Gratitude.  I like going to the one in Venice, because when I’m done, I walk across the street to Moon Juice.  Moon Juice, has every cosmic provision, juice, and any other holistic remedy you’re looking for.  I love everything about the company.  So, of course I picked up a bag of goodies to take home.  I even turned my girlfriend on to EVERYTHING they have to offer.  Now, the place that we stopped at last wasn’t exactly healthy, but I couldn’t resist.  I’ve pretty much been off of sugar since December, but I couldn’t help myself from stopping at Sprinkles. Truth be told, I ate two, and they’re NOT small. You only live once!

Basically, we ate our way through LA.  Such a fun day! I always feel like last minute ideas, are the best ideas.  Hope everyone has a great week!

A Trip to San Francisco

san7

san12

We just got back from a lovely trip to San Francisco.  Wow, Where do I start! I completely fell in love with everything there! I was pretty much ready to come home, pack our bags, and move there.  I thought I had been there when I was a little girl, but after asking my mom and dad, they both said no.  It’s one of my dads favorite cities.  We grew up our summers on the east coast, so I’ve always had a love for NYC, but this trip had me rethink my love may be closer to me than I thought.

We decided to drive, which was super easy.  Eleanor was perfect! We stayed at the Hilton Union Square.  We got up every morning and went out for the day.  I had a list of places we wanted to go and see (most were food).  We don’t normally make lists of things we want to do, see or eat, we like going with the flow, but we had too many places we REALLY wanted to experience.  They were all good! We also got a chance to drive over to Sausilito, which is the prettiest little beach town.  This meant that we had to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, which I’m not going to lie, I was a bit terrified.  I have a horrible fear of heights.  Don’t think the day before I was taunted by the Bay Bridge, when I accidently made a wrong turn, and there was no turning back. YIKES!!!  The Golden Gate is so beautiful, and the drive over was easy peasey.  I’m not sure how I feel about that Bay Bridge yet????!!!

Some of the places we went and really enjoyed were:

Dynamo Donuts: ok, we don’t normally eat donuts, but these are, trust me when I say this, “THE BEST!”  All organic and local (when possible) and fun flavors like lemon tyme, guinness gingerbread, vanilla bean, poached pear, caramel de sel, I’m not a gluten carrot cake, maple glazed bacon apple (one of our favorites), spiced chocolate, and many more.

La Taqueria: a complete hole in the wall (we like those kinds of places), but some damn good tacos. I actually had a burrito and it was delicious, and my husband had the tacos and I tasted them.  Stick with the carne asada tacos and burrito.

Haight Ashbury: enough said!

Cow Hollow: great little shops and tons of places to eat.

Bernal Heights park: This place is amazing! You park and walk about 20 minutes to the top, and then you have 360 degree view of SF. It’s worth the hike. We met a local there, and he even said that this was one of the top 3 places to come to see all of SF.

Golden Gate park/bridge: It’s just what you have to do if you are in SF.

General Store: great up and coming artists’ work. located in a funky little area called outer sunset.

Ferry building: Such a great place to cruise around and eat your way through.  We had yummy pho at Slanted Door.

Boudin: I mean if you’re going to Fisherman’s wharf, you have to have the famous bread bowl and clam chouder.  Of course we had to have it at Boudins.

Blue Bottle Coffee: This was the BEST coffee! Just to see how they make you your own specific cup is worth going there and buying some. This is a good place for coffee connoisseurs.

We checked out so many more places, but these were some of our favorites.

things

things1If you remember from this post, we went to Ron Jon Surf Shop in Florida, and found this quite appropriate sign for our home.  We got a good laugh with it.  After all, my husband is a surfer.  If you don’t know the surfer etiquette, they tend to only like their “local” folk in their water.  Whatever.  Men.

thingsThis is our second batch of stickygrams, and we love them.  They make great gifts, and they’re also such a great conversation piece.  Who doesn’t like looking at somebody else’s photos. It’s such a great concept, and so easy to do.  The link for them is on the sidebar of our homepage.  I love being able to look back at fun times with family and friends.

things3Sorry about the wrinkles, I literallyJUST pulled this awesome new sweater out of the bag.  I love it!  I can throw it on with yoga pants, or with jeans, and it instantly makes an outfit cute.  I’m so excited for sweater season.  Please, get here, fast!

flowerthings1Yes, I am excited for sweater season, but I am sad to see tulips go.  I found these at Trader Joe’s the other day and grabbed them, knowing that they are probably the last for a while.  Don’t you just love tulips?  They make a home happy and colorful.

things2Music is our happiness!  We play it all day, everyday.  Currently we are on the look out for a record cabinet.  What we use now, we are outgrowing, because our collection is growing.  This record player has been a good investment, not a huge one, but worth every penny.  If you’re looking for a good, affordable record player, try this crosley one, we love ours!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Weekly pins

Pinterest happens to be my new favorite thing.  I was really into it when it first came out, then I completely got off of it, then I rejoined.  I’m on at least once or twice a day.  I love it!  There are so many ideas, recipes, fashions, and anything else that pops into my head that day to search for.  Here are my favorite pinning’s for this week.  All of my pins can be found here, if you’d like to follow along.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Melbourne Beach, florida

mb12^^^The beaches here are absolutely beautiful^^^

Hello!  We are in Melbourne Beach, Florida.  Melbourne Beach, is one of the oldest beaches in Florida.  We are loving it! Everyone is so friendly, and the weather has been beautiful, hot, but beautiful.  The ocean and the sand color are so different from our beach in Santa Barbara.  The ocean is very green, with a touch of blue, and the sand is white.

I was here for one week before the hubby came down to meet me, and now that he is here, we have been exploring everywhere and everything.  One of the things that I love about Dave, is that he is so adventurous, and gets me out to be more adventurous.  Melbourne and Melbourne Beach are both very small communities, and tight communities, where everyone seems to know each other.  I like that.  Also, very clean, I like that even more.  We’ve had some great food, good laughs, and have met some amazing people.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Figs happen to be my new favorite thing lately.  I was pretty sure when a girlfriend of mine handed me one, I wasn’t going to like it.  I remember my parents eating them when I was little (Italians are big on figs), and yuck, I did not like them. But, she insisted, and I have to be honest, she’s my Persian friend, who happens to make me try lots of strange foods, which I usually end up liking, so I tried the fig, and loved it!

Figs are one of the healthiest fruit you can eat.  They have lots of fiber, potassium, manganese and vitamin b6.  The health benefits are; lowers blood pressure, helps protect against breast cancer, insulin lowering leaf in diabetes, bone density promoter, and much more.

I found good, organic figs at Trader Joe’s.  You should try them, I think you may like them.  They’re so sweet and juicy.  I’m off to go find some yummy fig recipes.  Share some if you have any, please!

Have you seen these gorgeous bags?  They are by Baggu.  I love this line.  We use their reusable tote bags for the grocery store and the beach.  They also have gorgeous leather tote bags.  They are just plain and simple bags that you can use for everyday uses.  Also, their prices are very reasonable.  Something cute and reasonable, I’ll take it!
