A week in photos

As many of you have heard our small community suffered a major mudslide last week. This comes right on the tail of the Thomas Fire. It has been unreal to watch family and friends lose loved ones. We are of course doing as much as we can to help.

We tried to explain it all to Eleanor. She goes to school in Montecito, and obviously hasn’t been able to attend, and has wondered why?. It’s hard to explain to a three year old what a tragic event it is.

Our hearts are broken, but we are a strong community that will rebuild.

We tried to bring happiness in this week, with it being such a hard and sad time.  Here are some pictures of the week, and I included a few photos from firefighter, Mike Eliason, of the mudslide.

Hold your loved ones close and be kind to one another. Life can turn in an instant.

much love~

LA for the day

la2 new

This past weekend we ventured down to Los Angeles for the day.  It was a last minute, lets jump in the car and go, type of thing.  Eleanor and I went with our good friend, while daddy worked.  There was an amazing event going on in Topanga Canyon, that I really wanted to go to, but, unfortunately we didn’t get to make it there. Although, we did make it to a few of my favorite places.  I’m such a creature of habit. I always go to my “favorites” when we go to LA.

We stopped at the general store, because need I say more. Then we made our way to lunch at the super healthy and yummy, Café Gratitude.  I like going to the one in Venice, because when I’m done, I walk across the street to Moon Juice.  Moon Juice, has every cosmic provision, juice, and any other holistic remedy you’re looking for.  I love everything about the company.  So, of course I picked up a bag of goodies to take home.  I even turned my girlfriend on to EVERYTHING they have to offer.  Now, the place that we stopped at last wasn’t exactly healthy, but I couldn’t resist.  I’ve pretty much been off of sugar since December, but I couldn’t help myself from stopping at Sprinkles. Truth be told, I ate two, and they’re NOT small. You only live once!

Basically, we ate our way through LA.  Such a fun day! I always feel like last minute ideas, are the best ideas.  Hope everyone has a great week!

Life Lately

We hope everyone is having a lovely week. We went on a Monday night date, to kundalini. It was fun! It’s always fun when your partner wants to partake in your new found activity. Ha!

Life has been busy lately. We really hope you are all enjoying all of our different snack and drink options. We are starting an all natural beauty segment, when this ends.

Here is what we have been up to lately, via iPhone…

eleanor collage

We went to Earth day, and enjoyed lots of fun, organic goodies.

Eleanor climbs into everything these days. No boundaries for this one.

We gave Eleanor her first whole banana. She was in heaven! And yes, it was a huge mess. ha!

Eleanor makes more faces then I will ever be able to capture. Not that I thought for a second our child wouldn’t have a personality, but it’s beyond! She is freakin’ hilarious!!

Crawling everywhere, and peeks at me when she wants to do something naughty, to see if I’m looking. It takes one to know one, Eleanor. haha!

Chatbooks sent us a nice photo album to have, full of pictures of Eleanor. Love having all of those memories in one place.

Daddy and Eleanor dancing at a little gathering we attended for some friends. This picture was actually taken by a photographer at the gathering, and was sent to us. I love it so much!

Your tribe

tribe new

Happy Tuesday!

Sorry it’s been a bit quiet around here, we have been super busy with Love Threads, and baby Eleanor. Who, by the way, is going to be ONE soon, and I’m having a hard time believing it.

Are any of you on Instagram? Yes, I’m sure.  If you’re not, get on! I have found so many beautiful women, and mamas on there.

Something I am realizing getting older, is that I want to be surrounded with naturally, good people.  I understand everyone has a past, and I’m definitely not here to judge, as I’ve had my own. But, I do know that no matter who you are, or how you were, to be a good quality person you have to honest and truthful.  This starts with yourself.  It’s hard, and sometimes a lot of work, but boy, it sure is worth it! I realized a while back that you can’t just play the part, you have to believe it and DO it.  Something along the lines of the old sang, “faith without works is dead”.

My circle has gotten much smaller in the last few years, but to be honest, it’s a closer, tighter circle. I love that! I’m a mom now, and I want to raise Eleanor around people who are caring and giving, not out for something. unfortunately, our society seems to be set for climbing and taking, instead of kindness and caring. It’s sad. We don’t have to be that way, we can all be happy and kind. Yes, things do happen, but trying to see the teachings in the negative things, truly can make a difference. It’s all about training our brains.

I’m loving my tribe, and building in that direction. There really are good people out there, it’s a bit of a search, but I’m willing to put out the effort. It really is a beautiful thing to find a kind hearted women, mama or not.

I hope everyone has a beautiful week~~~

a beautiful baby shower

baby shower5

This past weekend, one of my dear friends gave me a beautiful baby shower. The setting was amazing, the food was delicious and the company was the best! We had a nice mix of people, along with some fabulous cake! Ha! It was an outdoor setting, overlooking the ocean, and the weather was perfect!

Dave and I feel so grateful to have so many loving friends in our life.  Baby J is lucky too!

Thanks to everyone who has done so much for us throughout this time.  As some of you know, this is a true miracle that we are even pregnant.  We feel so blessed.

balancing life

Is there ever a real balance? Or is life just a constant catch up?  I don’t know, I’d like to think I could find a balance.  I have so many projects going on right now, my head is going in fifty different directions, and, oh yeah, there will be a baby here in no time.  The baby is my (our) first priority, then what???!

I’ve always been a pretty organized (OCD) type of person, so this latest “scatter-brain” thing is throwing me off.  I’m trying hard to stay organized, but the more organized I try to stay, the more disorganized I get.  I don’t know how some of you people do it, I commend you.  Big time! Especially the mamas who make, create, and sell homemade things.  Do you stay up until midnight? Probably.

I’m trying to find a balance.  I’m happiest in life when things are more mellow, as opposed to chaotic.  I used to be the complete opposite.  The more rushed the better.  Not so much anymore.  But, with all of my “things” going on mellow isn’t exactly the word that is happening right now.

One of the reasons I loved being back home a couple weeks ago was the relaxation part.  I have a good friend who I just love being around because of her energy.  She probably has ninety things a day going on, yet she is always calm, and never seems to be rushing.  She gets pulled in fifty different directions, and still remains completely balanced.  I’ve asked her before, how she does it.  Her answer was simple.  “I have to stay calm for myself and others around me.”  Of course my type A personality wondered “hmmm, if only it was that easy”.  But, I honestly believe it’s all practice.

So, here I am, starting my practice. The practice of patience, tolerance, and slowing down.  It has to be more healthy, right?!  I’m not a runner, I’m not a gym person, but I enjoy eating healthy, and practicing holistic rituals.  Oh yeah, and all of you avid runners, good for you, I bet that helps with mega stress, but never going to be there, and never going to try. Sorry.  I only wish.

Cheers to finding a balance in life! God-willing it happens.  Soon. Ha!

Oh, and here is an interview with Sarah Jessica Parker.  I love her.  She nails it, and so flawlessly.  I mean…

Baby shower

It’s been a while.  I’ve been getting in some last minute travel, and other last minute things.  Love Threads has also been very busy, which means I’m very busy.  Oh, yay, then I have that full-time job too.

Last week I traveled home for a baby shower, given to me by three of my good friends.  It was wonderful. I had a great time! It was nice to see faces I haven’t seen in a while. I wish I would have captured more photos from the shower, but I was having  such a good time to even think about it too much.  Although, I did grab a few.

Thanks again, Omaha for another great time.  Even though you were pretty darn cold, you’re still my home.

Hope everyone has a great week!

big bear, california

bigbear5^^^When we arrived, this is how it looked.  Still Beautiful, but no snow.^^^

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  We just returned from a 4 day trip to Big Bear, CA. We had a wonderful time with lots of good, fun, friends, and we even made some new ones.  All we were hoping for was to see a little snow,  and we got it.  Yay!  I know you east coasters probably think I’m nuts.

We rented a large home and all stayed together, it was perfect.  We cooked, acted silly, skied and snowboarded. This was my first time to Big Bear, and I really enjoyed it.  It was a 3 1/2 hours from Santa Barbara, so a pretty easy drive.

We went on this trip for a friends birthday, but as we were booking it we realized it will probably be our baby-moon too.  I’m taking one more solo trip home, for a baby shower, and then my travel is restricted.  Our little lady is going to be here in no time.  So excited!!!

Have a great week and I will be back here Wednesday with some midweek links.

baking Christmas cookies

We baked Christmas cookies over the weekend.  I love doing this little tradition every year.  My mom and I baked all day. A good friend joined us later for a little frosting action.  We have lots of cookies now, I already feel sick from eating so many.  Ha!  I handed a lot of them out, but also kept plenty, of course.

It’s good to have family in town.  We have been busy doing lots of Christmas shopping, baking, and eating.

Cheers to everyone that you have a wonderful Christmas!

midweek links

I hope everyone is having a great week!  I have been so tired, I can hardly get the motivation to write any posts. (which is why they have all been pretty generic this week.)  I’m excited that the weather is cooling down, and tomorrow is Halloween. Woo hoo!  We are having a few friends over, to hand out candy, hang out and eat.  I hope y’all have a spooky Halloween!

Everybody: Hands off the baby bump.  This made me laugh.

How to style a corner gallery wall.  I really want to do this in our home.

Why you look like your dog.

How yoga changes your body, starting the day you begin.

The perfect Fall tunic/dress, paired with leggings and boots.

We just won two photos from Violet D’art.  Her work is amazing.  Check it out!

I love the simplicity of this holiday card.

Cheesy breakfast nacho tots.

What your favorite apple says about you.  Mine favorite is honeycrisp.

I love these rock and roll onesies.

If you’re looking for a  funny twist on your holiday cards, check this hilarious Etsy shop out.

Yet another reason to drink coffee.
