avocado festival

a7

This past weekend we had the annual avocado festival in town.  It’s actually located in Carpinteria, which is 10 minutes from Santa Barbara.  We go every year, and enjoy it every year.  They have avocado ice cream, lots of guac, and anything else you can make with avocados.  We tend to over indulge in eating in the matter of a couple of hours.

This year we had some amazing carne asade tacos with guac, strawberry shortcake with avocado drizzle, and funnel cakes.  It was all good!

There’s also a bunch of vendors that set up, so of course we did a little shopping. We ended the night listening to a couple local bands play.

Good times with good friends!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

a night on the river

river

Hello from Florida!

We are still here and still enjoying every moment of it.  This place is so beautiful.  It’s amazing how every which way you turn there is water, whether it’s an ocean or a river.  We happen to not only be by the beautiful Atlantic ocean, which is by far, WAY warmer than the Pacific ocean, but we happen to be by two gorgeous rivers.  The Indian river and the Banana river are the two that we cross to get to the ocean.  When I first arrived here I thought the rivers were the ocean, because they are so gigantic that you can’t see to the end of them.  Their pretty amazing.

We had dinner on the Indian river the other night, and it was tasty.  The seafood is to die for down here.  It was the perfect night.  The weather was great, which in Florida, especially this time of year can be a tad HOT, but it was nice and breezy this night.  We ate, drank and laughed, and of course had another good night, with another good meal, with wonderful company.

Thanks, Donovan’s and Bonefish Willy’s!

dinner with friends

sushi2

This past week we met up with some friends for dinner to celebrate a couple of birthdays, and for a little farewell gathering before we leave.  We had so much fun! It was good to laugh, eat, and joke around with each other.  I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older that I’d much rather have fewer good friends, than lots of acquaintances.   It just means more.  I’m at a stage in my life, where I don’t have time for petty stuff, like I used to.  I’m really working on being a better person, and living my life happy and free.  This group is some of the few I consider my/our good friends.  I’ve known the girls a bit longer than the guys, but they are some of the most humbled people I know.  Love you girls! (and boys too).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Florida

fl6

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I hopped on a plane down to Florida, for one day. You heard me, one day. I had a little business to take care, which went overwhelmingly well.
I enjoyed my one whole day there, the weather seemed tolerable, I thought it was going to be unbearably humid. It wasn’t that humid, to me, but remember I’m originally from Omaha, Nebraska. I think the whole trip was made mainly because of the hosts that had me into their home. They are originally from Omaha, which is our connection. I have to be honest, in hopes that I don’t offend anyone, but Midwesterners have to be the most down to earth, kind, sincere, loving people around. I miss the Midwest everyday, but I am grateful to live where I do because I sure do love the ocean.
Anyway here are a few snapshots of Florida…

The fourth of july!

food and fourth 028

I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day!  We were pretty mellow around here.  No beach, no picnics, no nothing, just some good ole fashion relaxation.  The hubby worked, and I made a yummy peach, blueberry, apple, gluten-free cobbler.  At night, I grabbed a couple of friends and ventured out to watch the fireworks.  I decided after being in all day, that I really needed to get out of the house.  We have been very busy with lots of upcoming things going on, that it was so nice to just veg all day long.  We watched the fireworks from a parking structure, which turned out to be the perfect idea, then, we didn’t have to deal with all of the beach traffic.  I also got to snap some photos of our beautiful city.  It turned out to be the perfect fourth!

Now, time to start trying to eat healthy AGAIN!

a beach bbq

beach bbq bday 028

This last weekend we had a small bbq at the beach.  It was perfect.  “June gloom” has definitely set in, but I like it.  I’m sure by the end of June I’ll be over it.  The bbq, was a gathering to celebrate a special day for a beautiful journey that I am on.  I truly feel blessed to have so many special people in my life who care.  It has taken me a while (a long while) to adjust to California.  I have many wonderful friends, who have been through it all with me, and know me, almost better than myself, back in Omaha.  I speak with them almost daily, which almost makes it harder (i’m tearing up writing this).  But, I have made some new friends along the way, and they are special to me too.  So, this was a party with my new friends, that they so generously threw for me, and I am forever grateful for them.

Thanks, old and new friends.  I love you all!

A day in venice

venice 009

I was down in LA for business last week, so I decided to venture over to Venice, for a little window shopping.  Venice is a very unique and artistic city, with so many bright colors everywhere.  I love it!  It’s such a happy place, with happy people, and very cool architecture.

I was able to spend the day in Venice, with a good friend who lives in the area.  She shared her knowledge of all the gorgeous trees in Venice.   They are plum trees, completely red, actually, more maroon, full of bushy leaves and small Persian plums.  She was picking them like crazy, and I was eating them like crazy.  I also checked out Aviator Nation, this place is unreal.  I wanted one of everything.  Paige Mycoskie, is the brains behind this store.  She has one of the coolest places on Abbot Kinney Blvd.  Paige has purchased her own factory, which produces all of her stores clothing.  Made in the USA!!! Just what I like.  We wrapped our day up with a quick trip by the marina in Marina Del Rey.  It was the perfect ending to a fun day!

Thanks, Venice.  I’ll be back soon.

Weekend Shenanigans

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  We were busy, good busy.  The mister was working all weekend, but I was playing.  the weather was gorgeous.  I got to celebrate a friend’s birthday, attend a tea and crumpet gathering,  a fabulous dinner at this place, and go to the beach.

This was my first time going to a tea and crumpet party.  Crumpets, which are a mix between a pancake and an english muffin, are pretty darn good.  If you’d like to try them, you can purchase already made ones, at trader Joe’s.  They’re pretty much a carb overload, but, who doesn’t love that!  I was also part of a very special celebration this weekend, for a very special lady.  So proud of you, Stephanie.  Then Sunday rolled around, and it was time to hit the beach for a little r&r.  So we gathered some folks together and made a fun day out of it.  Thanks, friends.

I feel so grateful to be surrounded by such amazing people, today.  Who knew life could be this good!
