A DAY IN THE PARKS

Eleanor and I are so excited to share this post with you. Today is moms day off, so we are off to the parks. We are so fortunate to live around the block from the Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens and Kid’s World at Alameda Park.

It may not look like it, but we’ve been up since 4:30 am.

I did say we live right around the corner from the parks, but I thought it would be a good idea to drive just in case Eleanor came up with a different plan.

We enjoy feeding the ducks and turtles at the garden koi pond.

The Memorial Garden features a collection of 75 different trees, and plant species. The Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden Self-Guided Tree & Plant Tour includes a sensory garden with audio posts, interpretive Braille signs, walking paths, picnic areas; and Gazebo.

A butterfly garden includes host plants for butterflies and moths.

Moving right along, we spent the rest of the day swinging and sliding at Kids World.

We hope you enjoyed your day in the parks with us.

JOINING THE TEAM

I am so excited to announce that I will be a contributing member of the goodnewssantabarbara.com team. My excitement comes from finally making the decision, and following through with the action, to invest my time and effort into the dream we envisioned when Good News Santa Barbara initially launched in 2014.

Our mission is to provide a space where we can share who and what inspires us as parents, partners, and individuals.

Please reach out to us, leave comments, contact us personally with anything that intrigues and inspires you.

Here are a few pics from our day on Stearns Wharf. We enjoyed a great lunch at Long Boards Grill.

A couple of happy campers

A unique and interesting attraction on the wharf is the Ty Warner Sea Center.

The Harbor Restaurant and Santa Barbara Shellfish Company are great dining experiences.

Eleanor is on her way to lil’ ninjas, karate for kids class at Martial Arts Family Fitness. We love the fun, learning atmosphere.

In the year we’ve attended we have observed Eleanor build a strong body, a disciplined mind, and a resilient spirit. Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and an Indomitable Spirit are the school tenets.

Your first class is free.

Check them out!

Holiday cards

new xmas

We just sent out the last of our holiday cards.  If you’re anything like me, I always order more than one style, because I’m indecisive.  This year I went a little overboard and ordered 4 different styles.  My go to company always seems to be Tiny Prints.  They have a wide variety of choices, and their staff is unbelievably helpful.  Right now they are offering 30% off until the 14th.  After that, you can get 10% off until the end of the month.  If you’re a last minute person, no worries, they have New Years cards that are great too!  We ordered a few for those folks you forget about, because you know after you have a baby you forget EVERYTHING!!! Ha!

getting inspired

There are a lot of gifts you could give this holiday season, but when it comes to something really meaningful, there’s nothing quite like the gift of a book you’ve made yourself. But before you start having visions of gluing and sewing together pages, check out the Blurb Gift Center.

Blurb lets you make seriously beautiful books using their free tools. Just add photos and text, choose your options (like paper and cover type), and then order. Of course, you do have to decide just what kind of book you want to make. But relax, because they have put together the cool Blurb Gift Center to give you lots of ideas.

For instance, if you’ve got a genealogical bent, there’s the Blurb Family History Book.

For those with newborns (or those that know someone with a newborn), a Blurb Baby Book might be just the thing.

And if you’re the kind of person who keeps getting asked for copies of your recipes, think about making a Blurb Food Book.

This holiday season, make your gift recipients feel really special by making them something special. There really is a book for everyone.

Anniversary

wedding4

Two years ago, I married my best friend.

Dave, you are the most amazing husband a girl could ask for.  You are loyal, kind, sincere, and as generous as one could be.  The years keep getting better and better with you.  I can’t believe I got so lucky!

Happy Anniversary, my love. xo

The last of Florida

florida^^^The peace sign is because his shorts were falling down. ha!^^^

We are back home and back to our regular every day activities.  I am working on a few projects and one really BIG one that I can’t wait to share with you VERY soon.  I’m so excited I can hardly wait, but I have to, just for a few more weeks.  We had the best time in Florida.  We were down there to deal  mainly with some medical stuff, but we had lots of free time to enjoy our surroundings.  The pictures below were of our last hooray at the beach with Dave surfing and doing his thing in the water. I wish I could surf, I’m afraid of sharks.  True story.  I even spent the summers of my childhood at the beach, and to this day I have a huge fear of sharks.  So I just put my toes and maybe a little more in and that’s it.  I leave the cool surfing thing up to my husband.

Thanks, Florida.  You sure are hot and humid, but you also have the most amazing clouds in your sky.

D’art art

laura_dart_weareacre_09

While searching the internet for inspiration the other night, I came across an amazing photographer, Laura D’art.  Words cannot describe how amazing her work is.  I can honestly say that there is not one photo that I didn’t like.  Every single photo makes me want to join whatever or wherever she is shooting, it always looks so serene.  Here are some photos that she shot of Brad Shaffer and Leanne Ford, from the equally inspiring Acre goods and services.  These folks were enjoying Malibu after a cross-country road trip, where they stopped in various states to pick up other artists heading west.  I wanted to share some of D’art’s photos and you should really check out her website/blog, and dream.  To me, she seems like such an amazing woman, full of life and soul.
