A day in venice

venice 009

I was down in LA for business last week, so I decided to venture over to Venice, for a little window shopping.  Venice is a very unique and artistic city, with so many bright colors everywhere.  I love it!  It’s such a happy place, with happy people, and very cool architecture.

I was able to spend the day in Venice, with a good friend who lives in the area.  She shared her knowledge of all the gorgeous trees in Venice.   They are plum trees, completely red, actually, more maroon, full of bushy leaves and small Persian plums.  She was picking them like crazy, and I was eating them like crazy.  I also checked out Aviator Nation, this place is unreal.  I wanted one of everything.  Paige Mycoskie, is the brains behind this store.  She has one of the coolest places on Abbot Kinney Blvd.  Paige has purchased her own factory, which produces all of her stores clothing.  Made in the USA!!! Just what I like.  We wrapped our day up with a quick trip by the marina in Marina Del Rey.  It was the perfect ending to a fun day!

Thanks, Venice.  I’ll be back soon.

currently noshing…

After being on a complete junk food binge, I’m back to being somewhat healthy.  I remember back in the day, when I had a flat tummy, I would wake up in the morning and start my day with a bowl of Fage 0% greek yogurt.  I have tried lots of different greek yogurts, but this is, by far, the best one in my book.  It’s gluten-free, vegetarian, diabetic-friendly, protein-rich, pregnancy-friendly, and has no added sweeteners or preservative’s.  The way that I eat Fage yogurt, is by adding strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries, then I add hemp seeds, we like this brand and use almost all of their products.  Sometimes I will add Chia seeds, and almost always I will add maca powder.  It’s such a healthy breakfast, or even a mid afternoon snack that won’t make you feel guilty.  You can also find lots of different recipes on the Fage website, that are easy to make.  So do yourself, or better yet, your body a favor, and go grab some healthy deliciousness and indulge!

Happy Weekend!

currently noshing…

Nothing has been healthy this week.  Our eating schedule is way off, our work schedule is crazy, and our sleep is close to nonexistent.  So, that being said, currently noshing this week is not going to look good, unless that is, you like junk food.  I mean who doesn’t like a little unhealthiness sometimes.  You only live once, don’t beat yourself up.  Ever since I had my miscarriage I have struggled with not being 110, but I have also come to the realization that being 35, almost 36, I’m not going to spend the rest of my life stressing about weight and trying to do the newest fad diet.  Not worth it in my book.  I’m pretty good, most of the time, so that will do.  On that note…here is this weeks currently noshing.

Happy Friday, y’all!

Weekend Shenanigans

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  We were busy, good busy.  The mister was working all weekend, but I was playing.  the weather was gorgeous.  I got to celebrate a friend’s birthday, attend a tea and crumpet gathering,  a fabulous dinner at this place, and go to the beach.

This was my first time going to a tea and crumpet party.  Crumpets, which are a mix between a pancake and an english muffin, are pretty darn good.  If you’d like to try them, you can purchase already made ones, at trader Joe’s.  They’re pretty much a carb overload, but, who doesn’t love that!  I was also part of a very special celebration this weekend, for a very special lady.  So proud of you, Stephanie.  Then Sunday rolled around, and it was time to hit the beach for a little r&r.  So we gathered some folks together and made a fun day out of it.  Thanks, friends.

I feel so grateful to be surrounded by such amazing people, today.  Who knew life could be this good!

Cheesesteak Sandwiches

Ever since I was little, I have always loved cheese-steak sandwiches.  When we were younger we spent our summers at the Jersey shore, where my dad was from.  We would go to the Seaside Heights boardwalk and get cheese-steak sandwiches.  They were yummy and super unhealthy.  Whenever I think of the Jersey shore, I think of cheese-steak sandwiches and fries with vinegar on them.  I don’t even know how the conversation about all of this came up with my husband, but it did.  He said “I know the place to go, down in Ventura, they have the best”.  So we decided to take a drive down, which is a good 35 minutes form Santa Barbara, and test this joint out.  Oh my!  It was phenomenal.  Greasy, stuff falling out everywhere, cheesy, basically da bomb!  I took pictures, especially for my dad to see, because he is a cheese-steak fan too.  I must say when we pulled up to this little shack, I questioned my husband.  He reassured my “trust me, they’re the best”.  They were.  We reminded ourselves after finishing, that we definitely cannot do that every month, more like every other month.  Ha!

Go try The Great Central Steak and Hoagie Company, you will not be disappointed!

Scarves year round

Living in Southern California is great, but yes we still have chilly weather sometimes.  The quintessential accessory to have with you at all times is a light weight scarf/shawl.  I ran across the perfect $10 scarf at Fess-Parker Hotel gift shop.  They have an amazing selection of colors.  The gift selection is nice and very reasonable.
