Rigoni di asiago

Processed with VSCO with a4 preset

This family business is one that you will for sure want to add to your pantry.  Everything we tried from them was AMAZING!!  All of their products are clean, organic and GMO free. It’s always nice to find a sweet treat that is still very clean. I have a huge sweet tooth, so I had no problem trying each and every one of Rigoni’s spreads.  Of course, my favorite was the hazelnut spread with cocoa and milk. OMG!! An easy and great replacement for you Nutella lovers.  Also, their sweetner is so yummy in hot tea. It’s a low glycemic sweetner from apples. Win win!!

We are all about healthy living over here, and this company hits all of the marks.  Go try their products, you will be pleasantly surprised.

beauty // pursoma

pursoma3 newpursoma4 newHappy Friday! Next up, for our all natural beauty series is, Pursoma. Everything about this company says perfect! Their beauty products detoxify, rejuvenate, and soothe the body, from the inside out. We were lucky to try the ocean potion bath, which is made to detoxify the body with the sea’s restorative minerals, stimulate circulation with sea salt, and eliminate toxins on a cellular level. WOW! is all we can say. It was absolutely amazing! Leaving our skin feeling wonderful. The other product we were lucky to try was the earth bound body mask

We had the chance to have a Q&A with CEO and owner, Shannon Vaughn, what a beauty…

1) What led you to start your business?

Pursoma was created because I faced a health crisis which I was confident was a result of environmental toxicity. Extremely stressful situations in my life; poor nutrition in my daily diet; and toxic hormonal disruptors in my beauty and skin care regime left me unwell. Unhappy with the prospects offered by traditional medicine, I engaged in holistic therapies guided by a nutritionist and homeopathic doctor that emphasized detox and rejuvenation.  Following my recovery, I worked closely with a nutritionist and biochemist to formulate potent, effective detox treatments that left me feeling vibrant and alive and gave me a sense of internal peace.  It was this process of “soma”, or transition, to wellness, along with the understanding I gained about what it meant to be truly healthy, that inspired me to want to spread this message to others and share the tools to achieve similar results.  Thus, Pursoma was born.

2) How do you incorporate a holistic lifestyle into your daily life?

I try to be conscious daily of what I consume, especially if I am on the go because then I have to be more focused about it. When I am at home I have developed a very healthy routine and I stick to that. Obviously there are times when things need to be adjusted, for instance I am pregnant now and felt the need to eat animal products because my body wanted them. But usually I make it very simple for myself and I look at a meal or menu or food item and say, can I see the origin of the food? Is it a whole food? And I try to eat as simply as possible.

3) Favorite items you can’t live without?

There is nothing I can’t live without. I have lived in so many different countries and environments around the world at various stages of my life, that I have learned that I can always adapt. But if I had to list a few essentials that feel really important to me

1. Lemon water in the morning followed by a super high quality green tea.

2. Pursoma Floral Defense which is a homeopathic remedy for living well in today’s modern world (not released yet, coming soon!!!!)

3. A really good body oil. I love body oil and apply it after shower and before bed to keep my skin hydrated, usually it’s unscented.

4) What does your daily routine look like?

In the morning, I have the juice of one lemon in 12-16 ounces warm water, then I have green tea or very little decaf coffee with coconut milk.  Next, before or after exercise, I have a fresh green juice that I make at home or that I get from a local juice store (fresh, rather than cold pressed. I like cold pressed juices for a cleanse but prefer to have the fiber from a fresh juice on a daily basis.) I also alternate at home between juice and a blended green drink. I exercise (either cycle indoors at home or go outdoors on my bike, depending on the weather). I work a lot so I make sure to drink at least 3 liters of water per day and I eat quite regularly even between meals, but always super healthy. I hate to wait till 8:00 pm for dinner, I find I feel much better if I eat earlier and don’t eat much at night.

5)We love the idea of the digital detox! What is your idea of the perfect digital detox?

I unplug daily, but when I do it for longer time periods, I get all my work done so that I feel relaxed when I totally disconnect.  I usually do this when I spend time at my farm because there is a terrible internet connection there (a good thing) and once I am outdoors it feels intuitive to me to not be connected to an electronic gadget; out there, technology just instinctively feels out of place, like being totally overdressed for a casual party.

6) Where do you see you and your company in 5 years?

I would like to see it reaching a much more mass market and communicating a clear message that we live in a fast paced world and we need to take time to detox and reboot. I want women and young girls to know how to protect themselves against urban toxicity, and offering tools to do that. I want to create a medication platform that can be accessible and attainable to all without it feeling like you need a particular company to teach you how to do it. By offering consumers products that combat environmental stressors and by providing helpful educational information about diet and wellness, we can encourage them to stay balanced and well in their lives. I want my customers to understand and FEEL that there is a new norm for what it really means to be healthy, both physically and mentally.

kundalini yoga

yoga new

In my quest for a healthier lifestyle, I’ve been going back and forth about getting back in to yoga.  Here is how my past yoga experiences have worked.  I’m NOT a natural by any means, but I love the way it makes me feel.  I have scoliosis, so my moves are never exactly how they are suppose to be.  I’ve always gone to Montecito Yoga, while living in Santa Barbara, and I have always felt really comfortable with the classes there.  The teachers have always gone that extra mile to help me.

Long story short, I haven’t been in a long while, and I’m ready to get back into it, but in a little different realm.  I’m going to my first kundalini class this next week.  I’ve read a lot about the practice.  I love the meditation and breathing aspects of the practice. I’m learning how breathwork can really clear some different energies from your body.  I’m excited to elevate my spirit and to work on self-awareness.  My busy little mind, could use a little calmness and clarity sometimes, and I feel this practice would be beneficial.

I’m by no means an expertise in this area, matter of fact, I’m the furthest from that, and ok with it.  I do know,  that you have to try things that really interest you, or you will never know.  I’d love to hear if anyone has any experience with kundalini, and any insight you may want to share.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! Don’t forget Santa Barbara Earth Day is happening this weekend.  We’re excited to check  out all of the goodness!

health // nourish snacks

nature snacks new

We continue our healthy eating/snacking series with Nourish Snacks.  I was really looking forward to trying Nourish snacks.  I’ve heard a little about them, and loved the idea of having a nutritional snack for the on-the-go person.  I like to snack, matter of fact, all of my meals could be snacks.  I’d much rather eat more, small bites, than three big meals.  I always have my protein balls in the refrigerator for my go-to snack, but they are not ideal for putting in my purse.  So, these little packets are perfect.  None of them are over 200 calories.

They offer a great sampler pack.  This would be a good one to start with, so you could figure out which flavors you like. We tried, honey bee good, monkey love, cocoa loco, miss popular, and holy habanero. I liked the honey bee good and the monkey love. Dave also liked the honey bee good. The names are the best, aren’t they?! These are only a few of the selections, you can look on their website for a full listing.

Snacking doesn’t have to be junk food.  There are so many healthy alternatives these days, which is why we are excited to have started this series, so we can share some of them with you.  We would love to hear any that you may have?

sayulita

sayulita9sayulita4

Every year we take a trip to Mexico.  We switch it up, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Tulum, or Sayulita.  We usually go for a week or two, but this time we only went for 5 days.  We decided on a shorter stay this time around because we had Eleanor, and we weren’t sure how she would do.  She did great!  Sayulita, has always been a favorite for me.  The small town is very family friendly, with little ones everywhere.  We stayed right in the town square this time, at a quaint little boutique hotel, Hotel Hafa. It was perfect, very simple.

Back to the grind this week. Love Threads has so many new arrivals coming in this week, so keep your eyes posted.  Spring is here (at least for us Californians), and new things will keep rolling in.

Here are some photos from our trip, if you’d like to see this great little town.  It’s a great, inexpensive, little town to visit.

Have the best week ever!!!

Essential oils

diffuser new1

We have started using essential oils in our home.  We feel that they are a better alternative for us.  Let me tell you, we couldn’t be happier!  None of us have been sick (knock on wood), my anxiety has subsided, and our home smells amazing 24/7.  I have begun to make all of our home cleaners, so that I know exactly what is in them.  With Eleanor starting to crawl, I feel better knowing what’s on our wood floors.  It’s been a really amazing experience learning how all of the different oils work. I’ll fill you in on all of that later.

Recently I purchased a new diffuser.  I wanted a somewhat modern, updated one.  I found this one on Amazon, and have to say I’m completely in love with it.  It was reasonable, works great, and diffuses for up to 12 hours. It was too good to pass up and not share with you.

I would love to hear some of your essential oil stories or uses?  Being that we are new to it all, I’m really just sitting back and taking it all in.  I’m loving all of the different uses.  My sweet friend, Casey over at caseyleighessentials, shares amazing stories and recipes with oils.

Below is a wonderful photo showing the different uses of some of the oils…
