Real Snacks

Processed with VSCO with a4 preset

We are continuing our healthy eating segment over here. We have been long time fans of the GoMacro bars, so when we found out about their new THRIVE bars, by GoMacro, we knew we had to try them.

Like all GoMacro products, Thrive bars are USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO project verified, vegan certified, kosher certified, gluten-free certified and soy-free.

We were lucky enough to try all of the new flavors, nuts and sea salt, caramel coconut, chocolate peanut butter chip, blueberry lavender, ginger lemon, and almond apricot. ALL of them (yes, we are yelling), are all so amazing!!

What is so wonderful about this company, is the story behind them.  GoMacro started a little more than a decade ago to share about healthy and wholesome food.  When Amelia, the founder, was diagnosed with cancer, in 2003, she stopped eating anything that wasn’t grown in the ground. Living on a farm, she grew her own organic vegetables and fruits. As her health improved she and her family were inspired to start GoMacro. And, here we have this amazing bar. Their farm, based in Wisconsin, still remains an integral part of GoMacro products.

We love supporting family businesses and especially ones with such a dear cause.  If you’re looking for a good, clean snack bar, we strongly suggest trying the new Thrive bars or even the original GoMacro bars.

Enjoy the yumminess!

The Perfect snack bar

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Hello!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We did a lot of r&r around here. I have been doing a high intensity workout since April, and I have to say it’s been challenging, but good.  I have been fortunate or not fortunate, however you want to look at it, to not have to work out my whole life, until now.  I’m 39, and let’s just say my body doesn’t just drop weight like it use to.

All of that being said, I have recently started counting my macros. This has worked really well for me. Remember, everyone’s body is different, what works for one person may not work for another. This is what I needed. My personality is the type that one isn’t enough and ten isn’t enough either, so I wanted to find a balance. This also keeps me accountable, which is what I need.

I’m always searching for the best products for myself. Easy meals, on the go snacks, etc…When I came across Square Organics they sounded like the perfect snack bar. All organic and super clean ingredients, just what I like. I don’t have one favorite flavor, they are all amazing! The whole family actually liked them, even Eleanor. The macros fit right into my food diary for an easy snack, or even a meal if I’m really on the go.  Most of the time, they are a snack for me.

Head over to their site and check some out for yourself.  They were generous enough to offer our readers 20% off. Please use the code goodnewssantabarbara. There is no limit, so try them all!!!

a visit to the farm

farm2new

Happy Monday! I know it’s Monday, but I’ve realized if I keep putting a negative connotation on Monday’s, they will never be good. So, here is to loving Monday’s, because for us this means our weekend with daddy is right around the corner.  Dave’s weekends are Tuesday and Wednesday!

That being said, here is a fun, little joint we love going to as a family. Fresh veggies, fruits, and farm animals.  Win, win!! The Farm Stead, is a local, organic farm, that you can pick your own berries, and other produce. The have completely revamped the farm, formally known as Classic Organic. They still work on a honor system, which is so old school, I love it! The whole experience makes you feel like the world is still such an honest, pure, blissful place.  If you are local, or somewhat local, check the farm out! I think you will love it as much as we do.

beauty // laurel

laurel new

Happy Monday!

Next up, on our beauty series is, Laurel whole plant organics.  They are a flower and herb based skincare line.  Using the highest standards for organic ingredients that they can.  One of our favorite things about the company, is that they source straight from the farmers. Seed to seal, is what we live for.

These last few years I have really worked on what we (as a family) put in to our bodies. After having Eleanor, I realized, more than ever, that I want to be very health conscious of anything we ingest.  Yes, that means beauty products.  Our skin is our #1 shield to protect us, but we have to protect that shield as well.

I had the pleasure of trying a few of Laurel’s products, and enjoyed them all.  The anti-inflammatory serum, was wonderful.  I’ve mentioned before that I’m a sucker for a good serum. I put one on my face religiously, everyday.

If you don’t know where to start with a new company, I always think a serum or an elixir (toner), is a good place to start.  You can almost never go wrong.

I understand that cleaning out your toxic beauty closet isn’t going to happen overnight, but it’s worth doing the research to see what products are and are not good for your skin.  We have this app, which has really helped us discard what is pretty much “poison” for our bodies.

Happy beauty journey!

health // earth mama angel baby

tea5 new

When I was pregnant with Eleanor, I was really good about NOT drinking coffee.  Matter of fact, I didn’t drink any coffee, not one bit. I drank a small amount of tea, and mostly I drank warm water with lemon.  When I did drink tea, it was usually by one of my favorites, Earth Mama Angel Baby Organics.  Earth Mama Angel Baby, makes safe, zero toxin, organic herbal products, that support mama and baby.  I absolutely love all of their products.  It’s one of those companies you just know puts a lot of love into making their products just right.

Recently, I was able to try 4 of their teas.  Monthly comfort tea, which let’s be honest, we could all use.  Morning wellness tea, which is a wonderful tea for those queasie times. Heartburn tea, which we all know during pregnancy can be a total nuisance, but I have also been drinking this if I get heartburn know, and it’s wonderful.  The last one I tried was Peaceful mama tea, great for easing that busy head we can often get while pregnant.  Again, I’m really enjoying drinking it now at night, to calm my head before bed.

One of my favorite things about Earth Mama Angel Baby, is that they have many wonderful gift kits for mama’s.  Aren’t you always looking for the perfect thing to buy an expectant mother? I am! Your problem has been solved.  This is one of my favorites, probably because I had a C-section, and would have enjoyed any of these products.

Earth Mama is a wonderful company, and definitely  one that this mama supports. They truly care and love all of the mamas and women around the world.

health/plum organics

plum new

We have been huge fans of Plum organics for some time now.  They always seem to be up on the latest food-on-the-go options.  Which we feel is so important these days.  We are all busy, we seem to be running in 90 different directions, and some days the last thing we want to do is cook.  Well, at least me.  Plum Organics not only feeds your children, they are feeding adults too.

Their Plum vida line is an easy, on-the-go drink,  certified organic, only 70-90 calories, and no GMO’s.  Yes!! Created by the women of Plum, Plum vida, is a organic blend of fruits and veggies that will bring snacking to a whole new level for you.  The best part about the drink, is that you can have them at room temperature, chilled, or even blended.  It really is a healthy, go-to, for that on-the-run person.

One of their products that we have loved trying, are their new organic soups in a pouch. Easy, single serve pouch. What could be better on those long days, when slaving over a stove does not sound appealing. Ha! They come in three flavors, that kids will love too! chicken fiesta, chicken noodle, and tomato and turkey meatball. All three are great!

We try to eat everything organic in our home. It’s what we have chosen for our family. Of course it’s not always possible, but, Plum Organics sure makes it easier for us.

Figs happen to be my new favorite thing lately.  I was pretty sure when a girlfriend of mine handed me one, I wasn’t going to like it.  I remember my parents eating them when I was little (Italians are big on figs), and yuck, I did not like them. But, she insisted, and I have to be honest, she’s my Persian friend, who happens to make me try lots of strange foods, which I usually end up liking, so I tried the fig, and loved it!

Figs are one of the healthiest fruit you can eat.  They have lots of fiber, potassium, manganese and vitamin b6.  The health benefits are; lowers blood pressure, helps protect against breast cancer, insulin lowering leaf in diabetes, bone density promoter, and much more.

I found good, organic figs at Trader Joe’s.  You should try them, I think you may like them.  They’re so sweet and juicy.  I’m off to go find some yummy fig recipes.  Share some if you have any, please!
