Bar Method Santa Barbara

Yesterday I had the privilege of taking a Bar Method class. I’m sure many of you have heard of this exercise. But, if you haven’t, here is a small explanation from their website that nicely sums it up…

“The Bar Method creates a uniquely lean, firm, sculpted body by combining the muscle shaping principles of isometrics, the body-elongating practice of dance, the science of physical therapy and the intense pace of interval training into a powerful exercise format that quickly and safely reshapes and elongates muscles”.

I have to say, it was kind of hard, and I’d like to think I’m in shape. What I loved about it, was the fact that they really focus on grace and posture, which I think is so important. We (I at least), tend to hunch our shoulders on a daily basis when tired, or working at a computer all day, or any of the other million reasons we do it. This really showed me that no matter how hard you work out there is always room for improvement. It also made me aware of other parts of my body that needed a good stretch. I felt Bar Method is a very effective exercise. Again great for balance and posture.

Lastly, Kendall, Bar Method Santa Barbara’s owner, is amazing! She couldn’t have been any nicer and was so helpful throughout the class, and I needed it, trust me.  Also, HUGE BONUS, showers that are so clean you’ll feel right at home getting ready AND childcare. Those are two HUGE things I always hear people saying they love about a place.

If you get a chance I highly recommend popping in for a class. I think you will be pleasantly surprise with the workout you get, I know I was.

Celebrating Summer in winter

Processed with VSCOcam with b1 preset

Sorry about the absence around here lately. We hope everyone is having a great February!

We have been enjoying this 80 degree weather we are having! What??!! It’s been pretty much summer around here, and we are not complaining. Although, I will admit, I loved the cooler, rainy weather we had, for all of 2 weeks. The midwest girl in me itches for cooler days.

Eleanor has been enjoying her sandbox, and playing at the beach and different parks. She’s definitely a sun child. Just like her daddy.

I’ve been trying to slow down a little bit with work during the days, to enjoy my time with Eleanor. She’s growing up so fast, and it’s starting to hit me hard.  I don’t want to miss out on her discoveries because my head was shoved in a computer. I’m sure you can all understand that.

Below are a few pics from our latest days spent together. Eleanor really is the most amazing gift I have ever received. Some days I want to rip my hair out (like we all have), but even on those days, I’m super grateful that I was given this beautiful soul.

Family Photos

blog13

A few weeks ago we did the yearly family photo session. That’s always a fun thing to get ready for. (insert sarcasm)

Eleanor and I had had a few photos taken a week prior. I always seem to need a photo of myself, or Eleanor, for work. So, we snapped a few on a friends property. It was easy, probably took ten minutes, Eleanor was all smiles, and it went smoothly. For our family photos, different story.  Eleanor had just woke up from a nap, and we thought she had enough time to warm up, but instead, she wanted nothing to do with any photo. Ha! We did our best, and managed to get a few anyway.

Now, off to make those holiday cards.  They may not make Christmas, but, I promise, everyone will have a New Year’s card from us.

We chose to use Tiny Prints this year for our holiday cards. They are super helpful, and we love that a ‘professional’ always looks them over, to make sure they come out perfect.

Hope everyone is having a lovely holiday season!

A day at the zoo

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

The other day we decided to finally make a trip to our local zoo.  I’ve heard great things about the Santa Barbara zoo.  But, for some reason, I have never been. Now that we have Eleanor, we find ourselves exploring so much more. I like that! We decided to buy a yearly pass, and after our first time through, I feel like we made a great decision.

Santa Barbara Zoo, is small, but really nice. It’s actually really perfect, especially for Eleanor at this young age. Somewhere that is contained, that you can let your little one run wild, is definitely high up on my list. Eleanor loved the whole experience.  We probably didn’t pick the best time to go, as it was around Eleanor’s nap time, but she still enjoyed it. Heck, we all REALLY enjoyed it! We’re looking forward to going back very soon.

Can’t wait to see where we are going to explore next!

a little hidden gem

massage new

Happy midweek loves!

My husband called me the other day from work, to let me know he had booked me a 75 minute massage at a different place than our regular massage place.  I’m kind of picky about my massages.  Only because I really feel they are a treat when I get a chance to get them, so I want it to be GREAT!

The massage I was getting was at a place called Santa Barbara Body Works.  Folks that have lived here a while, may know this place.  It’s new to us. I was a bit hesitant when I arrived, only to be pleasantly surprised by how wonderful my massage was.  Here is the best part…75 minutes, for $35! WHAT! We pay A LOT more than that for 60 minutes.

However, you are in a room with probably 8 other people.  You are all divided with privacy curtains.  You do here a few moans and whatever other noises people make.  I heard a 70 year old man telling his therapist that he fell on his bum, so his left glute was sore. Hahaha! But, honestly, none of the noises bothered me, and they were not that loud.

If you are in Santa Barbara you should definitely give this place a try.  It’s a great deal, and the people could not have been any nicer. FYI: it’s hidden behind the Edward Jones building, on Mission street, and of course parking isn’t ideal.  I can manage the parking when I’m getting a 75 minute massage for $35.

Please check out their website, as the times change, and so do the prices depending on the therapist you choose.

I hope you enjoy your experience as much as I did.

Family Photos

We decided to have a quick little family photo session the other night.  A friend  snapped some quick photos of us at the beach.  We planned on having professional photos taken, but decided, why not just do this.  So we did.  The pics are cute.  I’m sure if a professional looked at them they would find a million things wrong, but we like them.  We aren’t picky when it comes to certain things.  Life is too short to sweat the small things, right?!

Here are a few of the shots…

What to do when it’s HOT!!!

pop1I mean, really, it’s been 100 degrees here, and I can’t take it another day.  I remember this happened last year while I was pregnant, and now again. I’m so sorry if you’re pregnant and you live in Santa Barbara.  We have been getting creative with ways to stay cool (well, not that creative, but whatever). The old washcloth in the freezer, ice packs on the body, and today, we made popsicles.

This is seriously the easiest and actually a fairly healthy treat to make for you and your littles.  We used watermelon, because that’s what we had.  I still have a major addiction to watermelon, it all started while I was pregnant.  Here is the super simple recipe…

Makes 6 popsicles:

slice a half of a watermelon into large chunks and put it into the blender

a splash or two of filtered water

a drop or two of stevia liquid

blend it all together and poor into molds. We use these, and love them!

Enjoy!

Come on, Fall!

blogblk cardiblog1cherry blossomdresstua top1We are anxiously awaiting Fall, here in California.  It’s been REAL warm.  I do like it, but at the same time, I also like brisk mornings and chilly nights.  That being said, Love Threads has a few new Fall arrivals, that are definitely worth checking out…

4 months

eleanor1

Time has flown by…

Eleanor is four months now, and there are so many changes taking place.  She is rolling over, having lots of conversations with us, and has started teething.  She really is a good baby, and definitely has her own personality.  Motherhood sure is fun, but completely exhausting all at the same time.  I’m hangin’ on tight to these next few months, because I know they are going to fly by.

We have finally moved into a bigger space, a home! We have a small back area, and a beautiful front yard.  When you live in Santa Barbara space is hard to come by, well, unless you’re Oprah. haha!

September is here, and I’m kind of ready for some Fall weather.  Even though Fall in Cali isn’t quite the same as Fall in the Midwest, I’ll still take it.  I just want to be able to put on a sweater once a week. Ha!

Cheers to September!!!

Patricia Nash Designs

LeCumbre-Postcard-Graphic

I always love being contacted by designers that are new to me, and have quality work.  As many of you know I was in the fashion industry for years, and now have my online store.  So, I can really appreciate quality workmanship.

Patricia Nash Designs, is based in Knoxville, TN.  Her love for traveling is shown in her work.  Her products are 100% authentic handcrafted Italian leather.  You can find them nationwide, or at Patricianashdesigns.com

Here is a little bit about the designer…

What is your background?  I have been designing, selling, and marketing handbags and other accessories for other brands for over 20 years. First I was focused on licenses with Warner Bros. Disney, to private brand development for American Eagle, J Crew, and Ann Taylor to name a few.

When did you start designing?  I started designing and making wedding cakes to support myself in college to then designing kitchen products, children’s products to handbags and small accessories nearly 20 years ago

What other things do you design besides handbags?  Small leather goods, luggage, belts, hats, and boots. We look forward to expanding our product line as Patricia Nash grows as a brand.

Price range of handbags? $99-299

How would you describe your line? European Old world craftsmanship for today’s woman

What do you do outside of designing? Management of the business, still serve as Pres of Company-  mother of 2 and grandmother of 6 – still decorate cakes for family members. I love cooking, travelling and appreciating any type of old world craftsmanship.

Has designing handbags always been your passion? Designing and creating something in general sharing it with people has always been my passion whether cakes, food, bags, or a flower arrangement.
