Smoothie and salads for the brain

If there is one thing people who know me well know, it’s that I’m a thorough investigator with things that I am deeply interested in. I think has something to do with my father being a former investigator. Runs in the family. Ha!

When I first came across Bulletproof, the company completely intrigued me. First I tried their coffee, which is amazing and one that we always have in our home. Then, I moved on to the brain octane oil.  It’s a reliable and quick source of energy from fat, not sugar. It also helps your body burn fat. The best part, because I’m an overtired parent, it helps with mental clarity. Yes, please!

We’ve been using it for quite a while now, and I wanted to share a couple of different ways we incorporate into our lifestyle.

Smoothies, who doesn’t like a good smoothie. We make them often. Here is what we add…

1/2 cup blueberries

1/2 cup strawberries

1 cup organic spinach

1 Tablespoon hemp hearts

1 Tablespoon brain octane oil

1 scoop Bulletproof collagen protein powder

1 cup of filtered water or more or less depending on what consistency you like. You can also add almond milk.

Blend it up and enjoy!

The other easy option for adding this amazing brain boost in, is salads.  We eat our fair share of salads around here, so this is an easy one for us too. Here is a simple recipe for a yummy dinner salad…you can add your own measurements depending on how much you are making.

1 cup arugula

1/2-1 avocado

chopped up cilantro

1/2 of a chopped up red onion

1 Persian cucumber

sun dried tomatoes or cherry tomatoes

For the dressing…

1-2 tablespoons brain octane oil

1 fresh squeezed lemon

Himalayan pink salt

sprinkle of pepper and I sometimes will add a sprinkle of Italian seasoning.

That’s it!! Super easy and full of great fats.

superfood Smoothie and more

Hello!!!

I’ve been pretty quiet around here lately. Life is so busy, truth be told, I’m having a hard time keeping up with this space. We’ve gone through some changes all around in the last 6 months, and I’m trying to just stay afloat. All is good and will eventually get better down the road, but for now I’ve really had to keep my focus on Love Threads, as that is our main income.

I will however try to keep up more consistently on here. As some of you know I love anything health. After battling a few less healthy lifestyles in the past, this is something that I care deeply about. I’m hoping to share yummy, healthy recipes and anything else that may come to mind.

If you’re still hanging around, thanks for your patience. Life has a funny way of pulling you in different directions when you least expect it.

This is my current addiction…

Cauliflower blueberry reishi smoothie

1/2 bag of Trader Joes’s frozen organic riced cauliflower

1 scoop Pescience peanut butter cookie protein powder

1/4 cup frozen organic blueberries

1 heaping teaspoon Sun Potion reishi (benefits of this adaptogen below)

1/2 – 1 cup filtered water

Blend together and enjoy! Add the water slowly so you get the consistency that you like for your smoothies. I like mine thick!

Ok, reishi!! First off, it’s amazing! Reishi is an adaptogen, which means it adapts to stress and exerts a normalizing effect upon bodily processes.

Reishi is known as the “queen healer mushroom”. This potent herb is capable of helping the body to overcome any health challenges it may encounter, while improving its ability to resist stress.  Promoting calmness, balance and inner strength. I love adding it to smoothies or making a tea.

I use Sun Potions reishi. I love their herbs and stand fully behind them. I also love that they are a local company in Santa Barbara.
