9 months!

little newProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Time flies when you’re having fun! We can’t believe Eleanor Reed is going to be 9 months in a couple of weeks.  She definitely has a strong personality, which I’m so grateful for.  She’s strong, independent, and funny.  She loves all foods, but sweet potatoes are her favorite.  She started music class at a wonderful little music school here at home.  Eleanor loves the ukulele! We feel so blessed to have such a fun, loving little girl. And her hair!!! Need I say more.

We are off to Mexico in a few weeks, this will be Eleanor’s first time to Mexico. Sayulita has a special place in our hearts.  We’re excited to show her where mommy and daddy like to relax.

Love the print above from hellomaypole.  It really is a great reminder to slow down and let your little one be who they want to be, not who we want them to be.

Hope everyone is having a great start to 2015!

A visit to the pumpkin patch

IMG_3829IMG_3859 (2)

We did our annual visit to the pumpkin patch this year.  Except this year we had miss Eleanor, so It was extra special.  The day was actually pretty humorous. First let me start by telling you, that back in the day if I had a day like this, I would have gone ballistic.  These days it takes a lot to ruffle my feathers. A LOT! I think it has something to do with having a baby.  Nothing ever seems THAT important, unless it has to do with my child and/or her health.

So, we started the day with some pancakes at home, daddy went to a meeting in the morning, came home and was off for the rest of the day, so needless to say, we were stoked!  I got Eleanor ready.  Dressed her in a super cute outfit, that somewhat matched mine, I showered AND washed my hair (its the little things, I tell ya), and, I pulled out the fancy camera.  We were ready, and in a timely manner.  Haha! Off we went.

Oh, and did I mention the pumpkin patch that we go to is 45 minutes away.  (we’re kind of particular with our pumpkin patches:))  We arrive and I get Eleanor out of her car seat and hand her to my husband.  He says “OH MY GOD, she has had a massive blowout, and it is all over her clothes”.  I’m like “Great!”  Mother of the year, totally forgot a change of clothes, and it was all over her outfit.  So we quickly jumped out to take pictures, with the winds probably 20 mph which, well, for lack of a better word “sucked”! It was the biggest catastrophe, but at the same time we had so much FUN!  Eleanor was laughing, Dave and I couldn’t stop laughing about the whole thing, and really, it turned out fine.  We got back to the car to strip Eleanor down, change her diaper (yes, I remembered that), and strap her back in her car seat, with just a diaper on.  She was in 7 heaven.  She loves having just her diaper on.  We were on our way back home, just like that! Oh, and Dave grabbed some hay and pumpkins, while I did the poop change. WHEW!!!

Here is the really great part about it.  If you really knew me, you’d know I’m not the most put together mother.  I’ve winged it since day one, and it works, for all of us.  I’m not one of those mothers that has a full day planned out for my little one, we fly by the seat of our pants, and we like it.  Eleanor has a schedule that works for her, and that works for me.  It’s ALL good!

I love this new little life of mine.  It’s so fun, and I feel so blessed to have this tiny little human next to me at all times.

Love you, little miss Eleanor, and daddy, love you too!  You’re the best daddy a little girl could ask for.

Hope you enjoy these funny pictures from our day at the pumpkin patch.

Time has flown by…

Eleanor is four months now, and there are so many changes taking place.  She is rolling over, having lots of conversations with us, and has started teething.  She really is a good baby, and definitely has her own personality.  Motherhood sure is fun, but completely exhausting all at the same time.  I’m hangin’ on tight to these next few months, because I know they are going to fly by.

We have finally moved into a bigger space, a home! We have a small back area, and a beautiful front yard.  When you live in Santa Barbara space is hard to come by, well, unless you’re Oprah. haha!

September is here, and I’m kind of ready for some Fall weather.  Even though Fall in Cali isn’t quite the same as Fall in the Midwest, I’ll still take it.  I just want to be able to put on a sweater once a week. Ha!

Cheers to September!!!

She’s growing and so are we…

baby 028

Hi!

It’s been a long while since I’ve been to this little corner of mine.  Life is in full session.  Eleanor is getting bigger by the day, and Love Threads is growing by the week.  I made a joke the other day that I needed to hire help for Eleanor and for the store.  But, anyone who knows me well, knows I get a complete adrenaline rush off of being a busy body.  I’ve been trying to snap a few photos here and there of my little angel, as the days go by.  I love having this little blog of mine, but it isn’t going to be able to have as much attention as it used to get.  Maybe again down the road, but I will definitely pop in whenever I have a second and post about something.  Ultimately, I’d love to possibly find some guests editors to fill in here and there. (hint, hint)

So, there’s that.  Now, here are some pictures of my most prized possession, and I’m sure you’ll see why I’ve been a bit absent.

The new normal

ellie1

It’s been quiet around here.  Life has completely changed, and we are trying to get a good schedule down.  Any free time I have, I’ve been working on Love Threads.  The store has been very busy, and little miss Eleanor keeps us quite busy too. All good stuff, but really just trying to find the “new normal” around here.

First and foremost, the sleep schedule.  We are sleep training and it has gotten a lot better.  Some nights better than others. Eleanor is only a month old, so we don’t expect a lot out of her, obviously. Ha!  Next up, trying to figure out how many hours a day I’m carving out for Love Threads.  Mornings work best for us.  We all function really well in the morning, and Eleanor usually takes a couple hour nap.  So basically all orders are filled in the morning, and my buying usually takes place in the late afternoon, when she is napping again.  Lastly, just getting an overall day schedule down. We are really organized people.  We have always had a schedule and pretty much stuck with it.  Obviously, we know having a newborn it isn’t always easy.  Although, we know we can try our best.  For us this is what works, others can fly by the seat of their pants, and that works for them.

Overall, life is good and finding this new normal has been a great life lesson, especially to slow down.  The biggest lesson we have received is not being selfish, one bit!  I’m glad I waited 36 years to have my first child.  I’m not sure I would have been ready before now, to be honest.  I commend you twenty something mamas, it’s not a small feat.  This is definitely the biggest accomplishment my husband and I have had in life.  It’s also the most amazing thing that has happened to both of us.  I’m so so happy we have been blessed with this opportunity.

We love you more than all the stars in the sky, Eleanor.

We were blessed with our baby girl a little bit early, but we are so glad,  because she is perfect!  Eleanor Reed Jessen was born on May 8th at 7:02 PM.  She weighed 5 pounds 10 ounces. We are over the moon!

going home

omaha1

The time has come and I am going home.  Yay! Even though it’s going to be a high of 10 degrees, I don’t even care.  I’m excited to see friends and family, and just relax.  This last week has been a doozy! I had some unfortunate things to deal with.  People wanting to be complicated, and blah blah blah.  Some people just have a hard time being happy for others. I’ve never understood that, I’m just not one of those people.  Like my mom says, you have to feel bad for them, they’re sick.  You have to pray for them.  True, I guess.

I have so many exciting things for the future to look forward to.  Wish I could share them all, but not quite yet.  I will though.  Sorry I have been so relaxed on the blog, I’ve been working hard on Love Threads, and a few other things.

Today we get to go and have a sneak peek at baby girl, and say hi.  She is a kicker! This little angel has brought so much joy into our lives already, and she isn’t even here yet.  It’s really pretty amazing.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week, and I will be back on Friday with some weekend links.

Loving others

monday words1

I can let something build up in me and make it tens times worse than it needs to be, or I can meditate and let the universe take it.  This past weekend my husband and I had a conversation about some family members and why they choose to do the things they do.  We were talking about how we were hurt by certain actions.  After a long discussion, we both looked at each other and said, “really, it’s none of our business”.  It’s true, it’s not.  Yes, we feel affected, but at the same time we have to accept these people, who we do love, for who they are.  It’s hard! I’m not going to lie.  My husband is more calm about such things. I want to call the person and have an out right discussion of the behavior taking place. ha!

My point of this post,  is that we don’t have to like peoples actions, but we should try to love everyone.  It will only make us better people.  If you are honest in your own every day life, things will proceed the RIGHT way.  I’m a firm believer in karma.  You get what you choose.  I’ll end with this… Always be a giver, not just a taker.  It’s better for the soul.

Cheers to Monday!

baking Christmas cookies

cc4

We baked Christmas cookies over the weekend.  I love doing this little tradition every year.  My mom and I baked all day. A good friend joined us later for a little frosting action.  We have lots of cookies now, I already feel sick from eating so many.  Ha!  I handed a lot of them out, but also kept plenty, of course.

It’s good to have family in town.  We have been busy doing lots of Christmas shopping, baking, and eating.

Cheers to everyone that you have a wonderful Christmas!

familyfun

We’re having lots of fun over here!  The family is in town and we are exploring everywhere.  I love when my mom and dad are here and I get to spend some quality time with them.  Today we are off to Malibu to visit my uncle.  The drive alone on the PCH is amazing!  We may even hit my favorite little spot called Paradise Cove.  Yum!!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
