Health // urban remedy

urban new

Up next for our favorite go-to snacks is, Urban Remedy. Urban Remedy, is a line of raw, ready to eat snacks, meals, cold pressed juices, and other tinctures.  We tried many of their snacks, and enjoyed them all.  We favorited the no oatmeal cookies, the sour cream and chive kale chips, and the banana brittle. They are a great snack to keep around for noshing on.  I’m such a snacker, so I need to have healthy food around, or I will eat anything, even if it’s not good for me.

Urban Remedy also has a great cleanse, for resetting your health, and treating different ailments. Please use caution with your body when doing any cleanse.  I plan on doing a cleanse when I’m done nursing Eleanor.  It’s probably safe to do one now, but I’m choosing to wait.  So, that probably won’t be happening for a while, because Eleanor is still nursing full time, and I’m totally fine with that.  I always feel like a good juice cleanse is great for cleaning and restarting your body.

It’s so funny how snacking has completely changed for me.  Yes, I’ll admit, I use to run to Taco Bell, eat Doritos, or grab a candy bar.  But, as I’ve gotten older and definitely since I’ve had Eleanor, my snacking choices have changed so much, along with many other choices.  It’s crazy how a little human will give you the feeling that you want to live FOREVER! I mean don’t get me wrong, I wanted to live before, but this little girl takes it to a whole new level.

Go check out Urban Remedy, and maybe just buy a couple snacks to try.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

health // perfect bar

perfect bar newContinuing on with sharing more nutritious snacks.  The next company we have teamed up with is Perfect Bar.  I first tried perfect bar a while back.  I actually came across someone on Instagram, who was eating them.  I’m not going to lie, she looked darn good, and this was one of her “meal” items that she swore by.  So, I was on it.  I had a hard time finding them at first, because I was looking on the store shelves by all of the other bars. But, because they are completely preservative free, without any artificial ingredients and emulsifiers, they were located in the refrigerated section. YES! even better.

I have tried all of the Perfect Bars.  They are all equally delicious.  Usually, with bars, I find one or two in the group that I really like, and leave the rest behind.  Not the case with Perfect Bar. The bars are so fresh, and are very filling. Great supplement for a small meal, at least for me.  Dave loves the Perfect Bars too.  We both feel great after we eat one.  Just knowing that there are no preservatives in them, that they are GMO free, filled with 20+ superfoods AND gluten free, REALLY does make all of the difference.

If you live in Santa Barbara, you can find them at Whole Foods, Lazy Acres, and occasionally I will find them at Costco. Remember: Always in the refrigerated section. Our family stands behind this company 100%. Nothing but good stuff fills the Perfect Bar!

health // four sigma foods

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

This healthy snack food is for the herbal lover. ME! We love our herbs over here, and not that kind of herb, but, ya know, the other herb. ha! We’ve started implementing all sorts of herbs and tonics into our diet.  So many of them, do so many wonderful things that I don’t even know where to start. However, I know now, that the mushroom, is (was) one of nature’s best kept secrets.

Four Sigma Foods, is a super rad company, making life on the run, easy to stay healthy.  Their foods contain the wonderful beauty, reishi.  Let me tell you, we have started using reishi from a few different companies, and it does wonders. It supports the adrenal glands and immune system, it’s one of the highest sources of antioxidants in the nature and it helps you keep a bulletproof immunity to stay healthy. Also, it can keep that ever dreaded stress at bay. Yes, please, I’ll drink it all!

We recently tried the mushroom coffee, instant chaga, and xoco blue hot chocolate.  We both enjoyed them all, but favored the blue hot chocolate, which is for stress. God knows, we need that right now.  It left us with a nice, calming feeling. Something else we love about the Four Sigma Foods, was the nice small packets that the shrooms come in.  Perfect for throwing in your handbag or gym bag.

So, go jump on the shroom train, I think you’ll be surprisingly happy!!

health // earth’s best

Processed with VSCOcam with a4 preset

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We are continuing our healthy, eating/snacking series over here, with a little love towards our little ones.  We can’t forget about them!

When we had Eleanor, I said I would make her food, when she was ready for solids. I said a lot of things, but…Well, I attempted it once, and to be honest, it wasn’t for me or her. (don’t judge. ha!)  So my quest began for the perfect, organic, baby food.  There weren’t many options, that I found and felt comfortable with.  However, the one we kept reading about and seeing was Earth’s Best.  So, that’s who we started with. Eleanor loves her options, and there are many to choose from, so, that’s who we’ve been with since day one!

Earth’s Best has a simple mission, “Earth’s Best Organic provides “better for baby” products with the freshest, purest ingredients, so parents can nurture their baby’s health with the utmost confidence.

Eleanor had a chance to taste a few of their newer products, and she was thrilled with them.  Luckily, we don’t have a picky eater over here, so we are pretty lucky there.  Another thing we love about Earth’s Best, is the variety of items we have to choose from.  We like to give Eleanor choices.  This way she can learn the taste of different foods.  I am still fully breastfeeding, so her meals with Earth Best tend to be a very small lunch, and a larger dinner. We also do give her avocado and banana. She really is a wonderful little eater.

Lastly, if you get a chance and of course have little ones, try Earth’s Best snack crackers, Those are her favorite, of course!

health // probar

pro bar new

I’ve mentioned before that we like lots of smaller bites around here, rather than three large meals.  So, when we decided to partner up with Probar, we knew this was a match made in heaven.  Not only are they organic, you have a choice of a bite bar for a quick satisfying snack, the meal bar, for the meal on the go, the bolt bar, for before your workout, the fuel bar, which is gluten free, and the base bar, which is full of superfoods. And, you can feel good about eating them.  That’s a lot of goodness from one company.

We decided to try the meal bars. They were really, really good! We loved them all! I’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong with any of their products.  We also really enjoyed having the bars for Dave’s lunch.  Dave works in the hospitality industry, and doesn’t always have time for a full meal, so this bar was perfect.

Neither one of us are huge fans of bars, but while doing a little research for this series, we both liked the information behind the Probars company. They have a great mission…”PROBAR® creates delicious, convenient, healthy, plant-based food products. We strive to become the leading provider of REAL FOOD choices, always maintaining our commitment to quality, sustainability and fantastic taste.”

You can purchase Probars online, or other popular retailers.  If you are local in Santa Barbara, I know you can get them at Whole Foods.  Give them a try, they’re a tasty bite!

Head over to our Instagram account, to enter for a chance to win a free box of Probar meal bars.

kundalini yoga

yoga new

In my quest for a healthier lifestyle, I’ve been going back and forth about getting back in to yoga.  Here is how my past yoga experiences have worked.  I’m NOT a natural by any means, but I love the way it makes me feel.  I have scoliosis, so my moves are never exactly how they are suppose to be.  I’ve always gone to Montecito Yoga, while living in Santa Barbara, and I have always felt really comfortable with the classes there.  The teachers have always gone that extra mile to help me.

Long story short, I haven’t been in a long while, and I’m ready to get back into it, but in a little different realm.  I’m going to my first kundalini class this next week.  I’ve read a lot about the practice.  I love the meditation and breathing aspects of the practice. I’m learning how breathwork can really clear some different energies from your body.  I’m excited to elevate my spirit and to work on self-awareness.  My busy little mind, could use a little calmness and clarity sometimes, and I feel this practice would be beneficial.

I’m by no means an expertise in this area, matter of fact, I’m the furthest from that, and ok with it.  I do know,  that you have to try things that really interest you, or you will never know.  I’d love to hear if anyone has any experience with kundalini, and any insight you may want to share.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! Don’t forget Santa Barbara Earth Day is happening this weekend.  We’re excited to check  out all of the goodness!

health // nourish snacks

nature snacks new

We continue our healthy eating/snacking series with Nourish Snacks.  I was really looking forward to trying Nourish snacks.  I’ve heard a little about them, and loved the idea of having a nutritional snack for the on-the-go person.  I like to snack, matter of fact, all of my meals could be snacks.  I’d much rather eat more, small bites, than three big meals.  I always have my protein balls in the refrigerator for my go-to snack, but they are not ideal for putting in my purse.  So, these little packets are perfect.  None of them are over 200 calories.

They offer a great sampler pack.  This would be a good one to start with, so you could figure out which flavors you like. We tried, honey bee good, monkey love, cocoa loco, miss popular, and holy habanero. I liked the honey bee good and the monkey love. Dave also liked the honey bee good. The names are the best, aren’t they?! These are only a few of the selections, you can look on their website for a full listing.

Snacking doesn’t have to be junk food.  There are so many healthy alternatives these days, which is why we are excited to have started this series, so we can share some of them with you.  We would love to hear any that you may have?

health/plum organics

plum new

We have been huge fans of Plum organics for some time now.  They always seem to be up on the latest food-on-the-go options.  Which we feel is so important these days.  We are all busy, we seem to be running in 90 different directions, and some days the last thing we want to do is cook.  Well, at least me.  Plum Organics not only feeds your children, they are feeding adults too.

Their Plum vida line is an easy, on-the-go drink,  certified organic, only 70-90 calories, and no GMO’s.  Yes!! Created by the women of Plum, Plum vida, is a organic blend of fruits and veggies that will bring snacking to a whole new level for you.  The best part about the drink, is that you can have them at room temperature, chilled, or even blended.  It really is a healthy, go-to, for that on-the-run person.

One of their products that we have loved trying, are their new organic soups in a pouch. Easy, single serve pouch. What could be better on those long days, when slaving over a stove does not sound appealing. Ha! They come in three flavors, that kids will love too! chicken fiesta, chicken noodle, and tomato and turkey meatball. All three are great!

We try to eat everything organic in our home. It’s what we have chosen for our family. Of course it’s not always possible, but, Plum Organics sure makes it easier for us.

a little hidden gem

massage new

Happy midweek loves!

My husband called me the other day from work, to let me know he had booked me a 75 minute massage at a different place than our regular massage place.  I’m kind of picky about my massages.  Only because I really feel they are a treat when I get a chance to get them, so I want it to be GREAT!

The massage I was getting was at a place called Santa Barbara Body Works.  Folks that have lived here a while, may know this place.  It’s new to us. I was a bit hesitant when I arrived, only to be pleasantly surprised by how wonderful my massage was.  Here is the best part…75 minutes, for $35! WHAT! We pay A LOT more than that for 60 minutes.

However, you are in a room with probably 8 other people.  You are all divided with privacy curtains.  You do here a few moans and whatever other noises people make.  I heard a 70 year old man telling his therapist that he fell on his bum, so his left glute was sore. Hahaha! But, honestly, none of the noises bothered me, and they were not that loud.

If you are in Santa Barbara you should definitely give this place a try.  It’s a great deal, and the people could not have been any nicer. FYI: it’s hidden behind the Edward Jones building, on Mission street, and of course parking isn’t ideal.  I can manage the parking when I’m getting a 75 minute massage for $35.

Please check out their website, as the times change, and so do the prices depending on the therapist you choose.

I hope you enjoy your experience as much as I did.

health // coconut banana bread

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

One of my favorite things I like to do, now that I stay home with Eleanor, is bake.  Although, when I cut out all refined sugar in December, my baking subsided.  I have been researching nonstop since then for healthy, yet still delicious, breads and sweets to make. I’ve mentioned before that this site is one of my favorites! Not only does Ashley have a way to make healthy living look enjoyable, but she also has a lot of great recipes.

I’m the type of person that when I bake, it seems to disappear pretty quickly. Ha! So, I really need to be conscious of what I’m baking.  I decided to make Ashley’s coconut banana bread, and it was amazing! I hope you love it as much as I did.

Coconut Banana Bread

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix together with a hand mixer or counter mixer, the first 4 ingredients.  Then, add in the next 7 ingredients. Pour into a lined 9×3 loaf pan. If you don’t have parchment paper, you can spray the loaf pan with coconut spray. Sprinkle walnuts over the top, before placing in oven. Bake for 55-60 minutes.  Insert toothpick in the center, when it comes out clean, it’s done!

So easy and so yummy!  Enjoy!

Here is another healthy banana bread recipe I posted a while back. Also yummy!
